Keep calves healthy so they eat and gain weight

Challenges

  • Viral diseases, especially IBR, BRSV, BVD, PI3
  • Risk of sudden death caused by clostridial diseases like blackleg
  • Secondary bacteria such as H. somnus
  • Stress of weaning, transportation and adaptation to new feed
  • Environmental conditions contribute to diseases like pinkeye that can affect appetite

Vaccination program

What should I give? When should I give it? How much? Helps prevent:
Vira Shield 6+Somnus After calves are three months of age, give two doses 4-5 weeks apart 5-mL initial dose, 5-mL booster, IM Major viral diseases including Type 1 and 2 BVD, IBR, BRSV, PI3; also H. somnus

Arsenal 4.1 At turnout or upon arrival 2-ml dose, sub-Q Type 1 and 2 BVD, BRSV, IBR, PI3
- and -
Quick Shield IBR-PI3 Intranasal At turnout or upon arrival 2-ml dose, IN IBR and PI3
- and -
Pinkeye Shield XT4 (stocker only) At turnout 2-ml dose, IM Pinkeye
- and -
Fusogard At turnout or upon arrival and 60 days later (or at reimplant) 2-ml initial dose, 2-ml booster, sub-Q Reduction of liver abscess

Clostri Shield 7 Upon arrival 2 2-ml doses 2-6 weeks apart, sub-Q Clostridial diseases
