Objective
Help heifers reach breeding weight quickly and remain in optimum body condition for breeding and carrying the first calf. Get heifers into the milking string quickly.

Challenges
Exposure to viral pathogens such as IBR, BVD and BRSV that can cause clinical illness or set the stage for reproductive problems. Exposure to leptospirosis, a leading cause of reproductive losses. Lameness caused by footrot or heel warts. Risk of sudden death caused by clostridial diseases like blackleg. Endotoxemia caused by E. coli after freshening.

Heifer vaccination program

What should I give? When should I give it? How much? Helps prevent:
Vira Shield 6+L5 HB 3 months of age or older 2 5-ml doses 4-5 weeks apart plus annual booster, sub-Q IBR, BVD, BRSV, PI3 and five strains of leptospirosis, including L. hardjo-bovis

Vira Shield 6+L5 HB Somnus 3 months of age or older 2 5-ml doses 4-5 weeks apart plus annual booster, IM IBR, BVD, BRSV, PI3, five strains of leptospirosis, including L. hardjo-bovis, and H. somnus when Vira Shield 6+L5HB Somnus is chosen
- or -
Arsenal 4.1 4 months of age, 2 2-ml doses, 8 weeks apart; booster in 6 months One 2-ml dose, sub-Q BVD Type 1 and 2, BRSV, IBR and PI3

Clostri Shield 7 3-6 months of age 2 2-ml doses, 2-6 weeks apart; revaccinate annually or as recommended by the veterinarian, sub-Q Clostridial diseases

Scour Bos 9, Scour Bos 4

8-16 weeks prior to freshening, and one dose of Scour Bos 4 four weeks prior to calving. 2-ml booster dose for cows previously vaccinated, IM

Scour Bos 9 helps prevent scours caused by three types of rotavirus, coronavirus, four strains of E. coli and Clostridium perfringens Type C.

Scour Bos 4 helps prevent scours caused by rotavirus and coronavirus.
